Our US first shoot with Matthias and singer/friend Tom Buckner turned out very successfully! Thanks to both of them and to our surprise participant in Central Park, a beautiful tortoise! It looks like the animal theme will be a subplot to this film that started out with a story about Whales when we met Matthias for the first time in Heidelberg in September 2008.

Open Wings Productions will be filming Matthias Kaul as he rehearses and performs in New York on the 17th -18th of March in connection with the Experimental Intermedia concert series in New York hosted and organized by Phill Niblock. Matthias and singer and improvisor Tom Buckner will perform Kaul’s “Silence Is My Voice”, (text by Henri Michaux) using custom made low tech electronics; Matthias will perform a solo work, and the two will present a timbre exploring improvisation. On this occasion we will also meet with Phill and spend some time at his studio.
